[Note: This submission to the archive is taken from a review that I originally wrote for the Smoke Signals Video Review Forum in September of 2000.]
I should begin by saying that I have NOT seen the original edit of this tape, and so I cannot offer a comparison...but since the "Digital Re-Edit" is the only version presently available, it is somewhat beside the point...
In a nutshell...this is a *STRONG* debut offering from someone whose efforts are very genuine and sincere, and whose tastes in "feminine and sweet" women are very much my own...the VERY conscientious and feedback-receptive Scott at Specialized!!!
Perhaps the most unique element of this tape is that it features a brand rarely seen in smoking videos...Virginia Slims full-flavor menthol 100s, a personal favorite of mine! (I've NEVER understood why we rarely see this particular brand in smoking videos!!!) Three of the four models featured - Mara, Valerie, and Mellisa - smoke them. Christy, the fourth, smokes Benson & Hedges full flavor (regular) 100s.
The feel of the tape, to me, is this: imagine that you invited four of the most beautiful (that you have EVER seen!) early 20-something "neighbor girls" over to your house, invited them to smoke, got out the camcorder to tape it all, and edited the raw tape down to just the most interesting moments. What you would end up with is the 50 minute tape that you have here! "The look" is "advanced amateur" (which I actually think lends itself to a sense of "intimacy" with the models), with some very interesting solid tripod and hand-held frame compositions (no "quake cam" here!); and lighting (indoor and sunlight) that ranges from "B-" to "A+". The exhales and "drifting smoke" ARE clearly visibile 95+% of the time. As far as purely "technical" lighting and videography considerations go, I would award Specialized Vol. #1 an overall "B". (And Scott is the first one to admit that his lighting design and videography have come a LONG WAY since this first series of shoots...)
The sound editing of the "re-edit" is a bit unusual, in that the soundtrack ranges from silence to full-ambient from time to time, since Scott wanted to capture only the most interesting comments of the models (and since he received so much criticism over the inclusion of music in the original)...my advice would be to put some sexy music on the stereo, and leave the sound up on your video monitor...that way you can hear everything that the models say, without waiting through silence to hear them when their comments do pop up.
But these critcisms are EASILY outweighed by the *ATTRACTIVENESS* of the models; "Specialized Volume #1" gets an unqualified "A+" for "model attractiveness"!!!
*MARA*, ALONE, IS *EASILY* WORTH THE COST OF THE TAPE!!!
She eclipses ANY SmokeVision model I've ever seen in sheer *SEXINESS*!!! And she smokes her Virginia Slims full-flavor menthol 100s with a natural deep style and grace that only a handful of smoking models I've seen even come close to!!!
Christy is a close second, in terms of smoking style, with nice deep inhales and full stream exhales that are shown to excellent effect under the best indoor lighting of the tape. Mellisa and Valerie round out the group with somewhat less interesting "styles"...Mellisa tends to be less "focused" on her smoking than Mara and Christy; and sweet, adorable Valerie tends to take only shallow inhales, while still managing to look *adorable* doing it!!!
But again, ALL OF THE WOMEN FEATURED ARE *GORGEOUS*!!! And if you are like me, and rank the attractiveness of the models above all other concerns, then you will not be disappointed by this tape; especially by the stand-out performance of *MARA*...who now ranks among my top 10 favorite smoking models OF ALL TIME!!!
Additionally, I'd like to add that Scott has a reputation for quick, speedy, and friendly service, something that I can personally vouch for. It is NEVER a hassle to buy a video from him; he processes and ships as soon as he possibly can!
